What is Cowboy Mounted Shooting?

Cowboy Mounted Shooting® is one of the nation’s fastest growing and most exciting equestrian sports.  The contests combine the skills of marksmanship and horsemanship.  Mounted contestants compete in this fast action, timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.  The first half of a course has 5 targets in a variety of patterns that require the horse and rider to stop, turn, change leads, and accelerate rapidly. The second half, called the "run down", is a straight course with 5 targets set at 36 foot intervals.

More details can be found at the CMSA FAQ.

Use the links on the left to find out more about the Carolina Rangers, upcoming events, results of previous events, and who to contact to participate.  Our events are held in North Carolina but are open to horse riding marksmen everywhere.
